RoofGauge

Roof & Ceiling Load Watch (Snow/Water Ponding)

Warns when snow or trapped water is loading a roof toward its limit.

Readiness Shared-family mapped

Mapped to a shared offline runtime family and usable with a recording or compatible ESP32 CSI stream.

Evidence Frontier Unvalidated concept

An early research proposal with no capability-specific product validation yet.

Runtime family Through-wall presence

Coarse presence inference across an obstructed link; it is not identity or photographic imaging.

When no ESP32 is connected

No compatible ESP32 stream is connected. Use the bundled Frontier recording; it demonstrates the shared Through-wall presence runtime, not independent proof of this capability.

Intended capability

Pilot this intended outcome through the shared Through-wall presence family, then validate it against site-specific ground truth: Warns of dangerous accumulating load on flat roofs and ceiling voids — snow pack, ponding rainwater, burst-pipe pooling above a ceiling — from nodes mounted below.

This describes the intended outcome. Readiness is shared-family mapped, evidence is class C, and a catalog mapping or recording is not proof of this outcome at a real site.

Solution blueprint

See the environment before installing it.

This exact kit is one of 191 first-class designs. It includes geometry, objects, nodes, wording, scenarios, installation, limitations, and catalog-bound readiness.

Bundled recording

A related Frontier scene

This is one recorded vertical scenario. It is not separate validation of every capability in the catalog.

01 The physics

Two coupled observables: (1) accumulated water/snow is a dielectric layer on the roof deck — paths reflecting off or penetrating the deck acquire extra delay and attenuation scaling with water-equivalent depth (wet snow is strongly lossy at 2.4/5 GHz); (2) load physically deflects the deck, migrating the ceiling-reflection tap delay (mm-scale, integrable) and lowering its vibration modal frequency.

02 Shared processing path

Stage 1 CIR sparse recovery tracks ceiling/roof-deck tap delay + amplitude -> Stage 5 field reconstruction attributes attenuation to an overhead lossy dielectric layer and maps its lateral extent (where the ponding is) -> Stage 6 compartment Kalman fuses the dielectric and deflection channels, CUSUM alarms on accumulation rate -> Stage 2 modal-frequency shift provides load corroboration.

This is a capability design path. Components may be shared with other catalog entries; it is not presented as a unique algorithm.

03 Validation plan

Own-hardware: flat-roof mockup (or single-story test structure), staged water loading in 10 mm steps with load-cell ground truth; winter field pilot on one instrumented commercial roof against snow-depth sensor.

04 Commercial hypothesis

'Roof-collapse early warning from inside the building' — for big-box retail, warehouses, and schools in snow country; insurers subsidize it the way they subsidize water shutoff valves.
