Driver Vitals Sentinel — Drowsiness & Incapacitation

Research concept for driver motion and breathing proxies; not drowsiness, incapacity, or medical detection.

Readiness Shared-family mapped

Mapped to a shared offline runtime family and usable with a recording or compatible ESP32 CSI stream.

Evidence Strong theory Supported hypothesis

Published physics or adjacent results support the hypothesis; capability-specific product and site validation are still required.

Runtime family Breathing rate

Sub-Hz periodicity estimate for a still subject; not a medical diagnosis.

When no ESP32 is connected

No compatible ESP32 stream is connected. Use the bundled Automotive recording; it demonstrates the shared Breathing rate runtime, not independent proof of this capability.

Intended capability

Evaluate the sensing evidence for “Driver Vitals Sentinel — Drowsiness & Incapacitation” in a stationary, controlled, ground-truthed vehicle study. This is not a vehicle, occupant, child, pet, or driver-safety system.

This describes the intended outcome. Readiness is shared-family mapped, evidence is class B, and a catalog mapping or recording is not proof of this outcome at a real site.

Solution blueprint

See the environment before installing it.

This exact kit is one of 191 first-class designs. It includes geometry, objects, nodes, wording, scenarios, installation, limitations, and catalog-bound readiness.

Bundled recording

A related Automotive scene

This is one recorded vertical scenario. It is not separate validation of every capability in the catalog.

01 The physics

Drowsiness changes the micro-motion spectrum: postural micro-adjustments (0.5-5Hz) decay in rate and amplitude while breathing slows and regularizes; incapacitation shows as abrupt collapse transient followed by abnormally static channel with only respiration present.

02 Shared processing path

Seat-aimed mmWave radar static/micro-motion energy carries breathing-presence and the incapacitation call (collapse transient, then static energy with no exit event) -> CSI micro-Doppler 0.1-5Hz keeps the fidget-spectrum trend -> per-driver adaptive PCA baseline of the normal fidget/breathing manifold -> MVE deviation scoring -> CUSUM on movement-rate drift across the shift for slow drowsiness onset.

This is a capability design path. Components may be shared with other catalog entries; it is not presented as a unique algorithm.

03 Validation plan

OPERAnet respiration + SenseFi activity benchmarks for the feature stack; own study: 20 drivers in a driving simulator with PERCLOS eye-tracking as drowsiness ground truth.

04 Commercial hypothesis

DMS regulation compliance (EU GSR) without an in-cab camera that drivers rip out — sold to truck OEMs and fleet safety officers battling camera pushback from driver unions. Plus tier: a seat-aimed mmWave radar rides the cab, and it is not a camera — no lens, no image — so 'no in-cab camera' stays exactly true.
