BreathDensity

BreathDensity: Ventilation-Adequacy Proxy

Senses when a room's air is getting stuffy — by how the people in it breathe.

Readiness Shared-family mapped

Mapped to a shared offline runtime family and usable with a recording or compatible ESP32 CSI stream.

Evidence Frontier Unvalidated concept

An early research proposal with no capability-specific product validation yet.

Runtime family Breathing rate

Sub-Hz periodicity estimate for a still subject; not a medical diagnosis.

When no ESP32 is connected

No compatible ESP32 stream is connected. Use the bundled Buildings recording; it demonstrates the shared Breathing rate runtime, not independent proof of this capability.

Intended capability

Pilot this intended outcome through the shared Breathing rate family, then validate it against site-specific ground truth: Estimates aggregate occupant respiratory load and its spatial distribution — a leading indicator for CO2 buildup and stuffiness — enabling pre-emptive ventilation boosts and wellness-certification analytics (WELL/Fitwel) without wearables.

This describes the intended outcome. Readiness is shared-family mapped, evidence is class C, and a catalog mapping or recording is not proof of this outcome at a real site.

This exact kit is one of 191 first-class designs. It includes geometry, objects, nodes, wording, scenarios, installation, limitations, and catalog-bound readiness.

A related Buildings scene

This is one recorded vertical scenario. It is not separate validation of every capability in the catalog.

01 The physics

Each occupant contributes a breathing line at 0.1-0.5Hz whose collective spectral energy scales with the number of respiring people, and elevated ambient CO2/stuffiness measurably raises human respiratory rate — so the population breathing-rate distribution drifting upward is a physiological proxy for deteriorating air quality, sensed before the CO2 sensor at the return duct catches up.

02 Shared processing path

Breathing-band micro-Doppler (0.1-0.5Hz) multi-source spectral decomposition -> RTI localization to assign respiratory load per zone -> adaptive PCA baseline of the zone's normal rate distribution -> CUSUM on upward rate drift triggers ventilation boost via BMS.

This is a capability design path. Components may be shared with other catalog entries; it is not presented as a unique algorithm.

03 Validation plan

OPERAnet respiration ground truth for single/multi-person rate accuracy; own-hardware: meeting room with reference CO2 logger + respiration belts through full-occupancy meetings — test whether RF rate-drift leads CO2 rise by the hypothesized 10-20 min.

04 Commercial hypothesis

For the workplace wellness / ESG lead: 'The building senses when a room starts breathing harder and freshens the air before anyone feels it — wellness-certification evidence generated by the WiFi itself.'
